It’s hard to believe we’ve been in our home for almost two years! I still feel like there are so many projects I want to do. Someone once told me that once you are a home owner, you’ll never be done with projects, and I have a feeling they are going to be right!
When we moved in, I knew that I wanted some sort of craft room/office space, but we still wanted to have the option of another guest bed if we had a full house. That’s where this day bed project comes in.
The first thing I did to the craft room was paint it navy (from the hot pink below!) with a vision of having gold and white furniture.
The navy is Sherwin Williams “Endless Sea.” When I decided on getting a day bed, I searched high and low for the perfect gold bed, but couldn’t find the right one at the right price. If you know me, this probably doesn’t come as a surprise because I am pretty picky! 😉
I finally found this bed on Wayfair at a great price and knew it would look so pretty in the room if only it were gold. That’s when I decided to spray paint!
After some research, I chose to use Rust Oleum Metallic Spray Paint. With help from Taylor, we were able to get this done in about a day!
We decided it would be best to spray paint all the pieces separately to make sure we got full coverage, then assemble the bed. It was also much easier to transport the pieces back inside when we finished as opposed to transporting the full bed frame.
After the first coat, we let the paint dry the amount of time suggested on the can and then applied a second coat before rotating the pieces to paint the back side. Although we went through about 10 cans of spray paint, this was still cheaper overall than the gold bed frames I found online that I liked. The total for this project was only around $200 for the bed frame and spray paint.
Helpful hint: If it is a little cooler outside, it will take your paint longer to dry. We had to sand and touch up a few pieces because I am not a patient person 🙂
I love the finished look of this bed, and I think it looks so good in the room. It also adds a nice touch of gold! Also, isn’t this rug fabulous!? Now I need to find some great wall art to complete the look. If you have any suggestions, send them my way.
I will be sure to show the whole room once it’s finished!
