It’s hard to believe that baby girl will be making her arrival any day now! With our first, I was clueless as to what to pack in my hospital bag, but with a lot of help from friends, we made it through. This time around, I feel a little more prepared as to what to pack so I wanted to share (hint, it’s less than the first!).
Getting Organized
- In total, we will have 4 bags:
- I packed everything for baby and me in my roller carry on, but separated items out using packing cubes (I couldn’t go anywhere without them!).
- Using our large L.L. Bean tote bag, we packed pillows, blankets, and towels for both of us.
- My hubby packed his roller carry on, and we have the empty diaper bag for bringing home hospital extras (a must!)
Hospital Checklist for Mom
Here’s everything that is in my bag – some items are provided by the hospital, but I prefer to have my own. I’ve included links where I could!
To wear:
- Button front pjs x 2 – I lived in these the first time around and did want a change of clothes
- Comfy bras x 2 – also great for nursing or pumping post delivery
- Fuzzy socks with grippers
- Slippers
- Shower shoes
- Amazon sweater lounge set as a going home outfit
Toiletries:
- Travel size shampoo, conditioner, face wash, and body wash
- Loofa and/or own washcloth – hospital quality just isn’t great!
- Face lotion – I’ve used this for years!
- Hairbrush (I forgot this the first time around!)
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- My favorite chapstick
- Deodorant
- Makeup – simple selection, but definitely made me feel a bit more human after labor!
- Nipple Butter
- Frida Mom Peri Bottle – the hospital provides one, but the Frida Mom option can’t be beat
- Prenatal Vitamins
Miscellaneous:
- Fan – I packed both a neck fan and the stroller fan for flexibility
- Extra long charging cords and own charging block for both of us
- Blanket, pillow, and towel from home (not white so that it doesn’t get mixed up with the hospital’s)
- Boppy pillow for nursing
- Camera
- Heating Pad
- Portable sound machine
- Eye mask
- Water bottle
- Snacks for the nurses and us
- Sharpie/pen
- Book – I wish I had remembered one the first time around while we were waiting for things to progress
Hospital Checklist for Baby
Honestly, we didn’t pack much for Grayson when he was born, and we aren’t packing much for baby girl either. Although the diaper bag is on the list of what to pack, I packed her items in with mine.
- Diaper Bag – leaving this empty to take home the postpartum mom items (hospital mesh undies, ice packs, etc!)
- Going home outfit
- Name/birth stat sign
- Cozy blanket for the car ride home
- Car seat – that should be a no-brainer 🙂
Hospital Checklist for Dad
- Insurance cards & any paperwork needed (birth plan if you have one, etc)
- Wallet
- Toiletries & toothbrush
- PJs and or sweatshirt/sweatpants – Taylor froze the first time around because I had the air so low!
- Slippers
- Change of clothes
- Soft toilet paper – lol!
- Pillow/Blanket from home (not white!)
