Wow. I can’t believe it has been over five months since we got engaged! Where has this year gone?!
Taylor and I got engaged on March 14, 2020, and what a whirlwind it has been since. Who knew that we would only be back in our offices working for about three days before being sent home for months. Although working from home has its own set of difficulties, we have definitely enjoyed it. It has been like a mini “engagement moon” for us and we have been able to knock out some key wedding planning steps, which has been amazing – more on wedding planning in a future post!
Okay, time to cut to the chase and tell y’all about the engagement! I had been traveling A LOT at the beginning of the year for work, so Taylor and I wanted a relaxing weekend at Smith Mountain Lake, one of our favorite places. Almost every time we spend the weekend there I overpack, but always have cute outfits. Well, of course, not this time!
On Saturday morning, Taylor wanted to go on a hike to Peaks of Otter and I was kind of thinking “why are we doing this hike we JUST did a month ago?” So, I took my time getting ready and put on a little makeup. I didn’t worry about brushing my hair (LOL) or putting on lipstick, which if you know me, you know I always have some on! Oh, let’s not forget, I didn’t remember to pack a jacket for our hike in mid-March so I wore an old one from the lake house. I couldn’t figure out why Taylor was so exasperated by that.
We took our time getting out to Peaks of Otter and then also hiked a little slow on the way up the trail. This whole time I was thinking that Taylor was slow because of the Moscow Mules we had the night before, but I was wrong 😉
Once we were almost to the top, I was starving and ready to stop and eat. Taylor on the other hand said to keep going all the way to the top. Here I am thinking “Ugh why? I am so hungry!” Well, when we turned the corner to get to the top of the trail, to my surprise, there was Taylor’s brother, Matt, with a big smile and holding a camera telling me to turn around. Now it made sense why we were hiking slowly. I think you can figure out what happens next 🙂
When I turned around, I saw Taylor down on one knee!! I was so surprised!! I immediately began crying happy tears, smiling, and shaking with excitement. Taylor said some of the sweetest, most heartfelt things during the proposal and I of course said yes. Thanks to a couple bystanders, we were able to get the entire thing on video and I’m so glad because we were so overwhelmed and excited I don’t think either of us remember the full proposal!
We were, and still are, on top of the world (literally & figuratively!). We spent the rest of the day celebrating our excitement and sharing the good news with family and friends. A special shout out goes to Matt & Paige for our wonderful photos and engagement day celebration!
It was hands down the best day! Cheers to Taylor for pulling off such a wonderful and memorable surprise! All of my friends knew I wasn’t expecting it because I didn’t have my lipstick on 😉
Thank you all for your love, support, and excitement for us as we begin this next journey in our lives! Stay tuned for a few posts on planning our dream wedding.
